Seedream 5.0 Lite Image-to-Image Prompts: Copy-Paste Recipes for Multi-Reference Editing

A developer's guide to structuring editing prompts, combining multiple reference images, and iterating to predictable results

Wiring These Recipes Into Your Pipeline

Once a prompt survives your fixed reference set, it stops being a prompt and becomes a parameterized template. Treat it that way in your application code.

Template, don't string-concatenate

Turn each recipe into a template with named slots — subject_anchor, edit_action, constraints, style_hold — and keep the fixed sentences static. The static constraint lines are the tested part; letting application logic assemble them ad hoc reintroduces the drift you eliminated.

prompt = TEMPLATE.format(
    subject_anchor="the jacket",
    edit_action="recolor to deep navy",
    constraints="face, pose, hair, background, and lighting unchanged",
    style_hold="photographic grain and color grading of the original",
)

This also gives you a validation surface: reject requests where edit_action is empty, or where constraints has been trimmed to nothing, before spending a call.

Version templates in source control

Store templates as files with a version identifier, and record that identifier alongside every output you persist. When a user reports a bad result, you can reconstruct the exact prompt that produced it. This is the same logging discipline from the iteration loop, moved into production.

Route everything through one interface

Call image-to-image through the HiAPI.ai endpoint for seedream-5.0-lite/image-to-image so prompt structure, reference ordering, and model selection live in one place rather than being scattered across vendor-specific integrations. When you swap or add a model later, your templates and logs stay valid.

Build a small regression suite

Take your fixed reference set and your ten most important templates, and run the cross-product periodically. You are not grading aesthetics — you are checking that each template still lands its edit and still preserves its stated constraints. That suite is the cheapest insurance you can buy against a silent model or template change.

Start with the single-reference recipes, promote the ones your product actually needs into versioned templates, and let the multi-reference and constraint-heavy patterns follow once the basics are boring and stable.

Two flows, one picture: text-to-image starts from a prompt alone, while image-to-image adds a source image to the same output.
