Positioning Overview
Seedream 5.0 Lite's text-to-image route is a version of the ByteDance Seedream 5.0 series aimed at lightweight production scenarios. It takes a text description and outputs 2K or 4K images at the specified aspect ratio, with prompts up to 3000 characters. It suits developers who need to produce routine illustrations in batches and quickly validate visual directions. Compared with the Pro version in the same series, it is better suited to stages of the image-generation workflow that are cost-sensitive per image; for complex infographics, high-density text layout, or multi-image consistent editing, a more capable route should be used instead.
Core Highlights
- Prompts support real-time web knowledge — when a prompt touches on time-sensitive topics, the model can combine web information to understand intent, reducing bias caused by outdated content.
- 2K and 4K resolutions at the same price — switching the output resolution between 2K and 4K does not change the billing basis, so high-definition output requires no separate cost planning.
- Aspect ratios cover mainstream placement formats — eight aspect ratios from 1:1 to 21:9 are provided, so a single call can directly produce compositions that fit different placements.
Capabilities
Pure text-to-image generation: generates images from text descriptions alone, with no reference image upload required, making it suitable for quickly laying out visual directions in words before narrowing down.
2K/4K resolution output: choose the standard or high-detail tier as needed; the 4K tier suits finished pieces that need to be viewed magnified or shown at print quality.
Eight aspect ratios: 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9, 9:16, 2:3, 3:2, and 21:9 are available, directly matching social media, banner, and vertical placements.
Long prompt input: prompts can be up to 3000 characters, accommodating fairly complete descriptions of scene, style, and composition, which makes it easy to build reusable prompt templates.
Applicable Scenarios
- E-commerce operations: product selling points and scene descriptions — generate product main images and marketing illustrations in batches from text descriptions, for use in store listing pages or as initial drafts of advertising assets.
- Content teams: article and event illustrations — input a topic and visual requirements to produce illustrations in multiple ratios, ready for direct use as article header images, banners, and social media posts.
- Product and design: visual concept previews — before formal design, quickly generate sketches in multiple directions from text, for requirements communication and style confirmation.
- App developers: image generation feature integration — embed text-to-image capability into their own products through a unified API, with real-time image generation driven by user prompts.
Limitations and Selection Advice
This route accepts only text input and cannot perform style transfer, local image edits, or multi-image blending based on reference images; when image editing and consistency control are needed, the image-generation route in the same series should be used instead. For tasks that demand high text-rendering precision, such as complex infographics and high-density text layout, the Pro version is more suitable, as Pro has dedicated enhancements in structural coherence and multilingual text performance. In addition, prompts involving current events will bring in web information, and the output is affected by the retrieved content; when strict reproducibility is required, constraints should be stated explicitly in the prompt.

Create a generation task
https://api.hiapi.ai/v1/tasks Headers
AuthorizationstringRequiredAccount API key. Required on every request. Example: Bearer YOUR_HIAPI_API_KEY. Get your API key
Content-TypestringOptionalThe request body is always parsed as JSON; when sent, only application/json (optionally with charset) is accepted — any other value returns 415. Example: application/json.
Idempotency-KeystringOptionalIdempotency key, up to 255 bytes. Retries with the same key from the same account create the task only once; replays return the original taskId.
On network timeouts or client retries, the same key creates the task only once — no double charges (scope: the API key's account). Use a business-unique identifier as the key (e.g. "order-42"); replays return the original taskId, and keys expire 24 hours after the first request. See the Unified Async API overview for the full scenario matrix.

routestringOptionalCurrent fixed value: default
inputobjectRequired
Business parameters for seedream-5.0-lite/text-to-image and route default — see the parameter table below.
promptstringRequiredminLength 4maxLength 3000A textual description of the image to generate. The model understands the intent of the prompt and can incorporate real-time web knowledge.
resolutionstringRequiredDefault: "2K"Output resolution tier: 2K for standard quality, 4K for maximum detail; both tiers are priced the same. Defaults to 2K.
2K4Kaspect_ratiostringRequiredDefault: "1:1"The aspect ratio of the output image. Defaults to 1:1.
1:14:33:416:99:162:33:221:9callbackobjectOptional
Terminal-state notification config. When omitted, no callback is delivered — poll the task yourself. See the callback note below.
Provide callback.url when creating a task and HiAPI POSTs to your service once the task reaches a terminal state — no polling needed. The callback payload mirrors the task detail structure; signature verification, delivery retries and idempotency are documented on the Unified Async API overview page.
urlstringRequiredRequired when callback is present. A POST is sent to this URL once the task reaches a terminal state; must be a valid http(s) URL.
whenstringOptionalDefault: "final"Only final is supported today — notified on both success and fail.
finalstoragestringOptionalDefault: "temp"Artifact storage tier: temp (default, retained about 7 days) or persistent (long-term, billed by size). Insufficient balance or exceeding the storage cap silently downgrades to temp; the effective tier is shown in the task detail response.
